Pack outfits, not clothes: the travel method for men

Packing goes wrong when you pack items ("some shirts, some pants") instead of outfits. The fix is deciding what you'll actually wear each day before anything enters the bag.

The outfit-first method

  1. Check the real forecast for your destination — not the season, the forecast.
  2. List the days and occasions: two dinners, one meeting, three casual days is six outfits, not "a week of clothes."
  3. Build outfits that share pieces: one pair of dark jeans can anchor three different looks. Two shoes maximum; they're the heaviest thing you own.
  4. Pack the list, nothing else. The maybe-pile stays home.

The carry-on formula (5-7 days)

Travel day itself

Comfort with structure: straight-leg pants with stretch, clean sneakers, a layer for the plane. You can look put together at the gate without suffering for it.
